The LOKSTAT collections can be used for scientific research. Copyright is applicable on the digital data files; some data files were lent to LOKSTAT by private organisations. Different levels of openness apply to the data depending on the origin and statute of the source. Interested researchers can submit a motivated request to gain access to the data. The data user must agree in writing not to give the datasets to third parties.
Only requests that concern specific research themes will be considered. LOKSTAT is pre-eminently suitable for statistical analyses of a large number of municipalities. It offers little or no added value to studies that are limited to one municipality or smaller regions. Calling up cross-source data for specific municipalities requires more time than consulting the printed sources due to the database's structure and the metadata.
